Barmy Army
Festive greetings People!! Well so much for the typical aussie barbie on the beach for Christmas, it was so cold that i had a coat and a scarf on! Melbournes weather is the weirdest thing, the temperature can drop 10 degrees in ten minutes, i'm honestly not joking. Last week it was about 35 degrees and the next day it was 12. Weird. Try dressing for that! Christmas Day was definitley different, seeming i hadn't bought anything nice to eat or picked up my pressies from home, i woke up to ppl wishing me a happy xmas and lets just say i was less than happy. I felt like a modern day scrouge.com>1=concretehoney">. Sitting in a pew i was looking around and thinking that it was really quite a posh church and there were a lot of irish people... Small problem, i'd walked into a catholic and i'm not catholic. Oh well i got to sing a few carols and took communion which aparently is blasphamous, but i'm sure God won't mind.....i was really hungry. The day definitley picked up when i hit the vodka and started munching cheese and crisps for xmas lunch, but must say it wasn't as good as my xmas dinner. The eve of christmas day was much better though. I had a tip off about getting cheap tickets to the boxing day test so went walking round melbournes CBD looking for the head don of the Barmy Army. Del Boy eat your heart out, i swear to god he was talking in cokney rhyming slang, so strange to hear! The pub we went to in search of tickets was just full of english and it was so weird to be back in a pub where if ppl bump into you they don't say that they are sorry. Unfortunatley the tickets had already sold out so i jumped on the train to my boys house where i was treated to a christmas dinner and lots and lots of drinking. It was a wicked night and meeting the family was a little bit scary but i think they liked me after i offered them vodka! Oh and the boys name is Rohan and i met him a month ago, but i don't wanna say too much about him, but i think he's ok... for a boy! And he's an aussie, so thats my visa sorted!! No, he is really sweet and treats me like a princess (which obviously i am). Boxing day Rohan and i left his about 7am in the morning to scout around for tickets which we were lucky to get. My very good friend Miranda from Canada also came with us. Now obviously the boy supports australia but so does miranda cos she goes to uni here, so there is just me cheering on the lads. But God was obvioulsy smiling on me that day as the tickets were right in the middle of the barmy army. Excellent. Must say i learnt some ver interesting songs, my personal favourite was to the tune of 'yellow submarine': 'we all live in a convict colony'. Stuffing my hand in my mouth to smother my giggles was not helping, much to the annoyance of my two aussie supporters. The best ting about cricket though is that you can leave the ground for ten mins and come back and you haven't missed much. This is also an ample amount of time to hit the bottle shop (off licence). However you're not alound to bring alcohol into the ground and they check your bag when you walk in. So using our femine charms, Miranda had her overnight bag with her so we put the drinks in the bottom of her bag and covered the top in her pants, bras and sprinkled a few tampons ontop for good measure. Needless to say the bag checker just opened it up, took one look and then just let us in. The best part of the day was when that Shane Warne dude took his 700th wicket. The place erupted , everyone, even the barmy army ,were up on their feet. Probably something i'll remember especially as Melbourne is where he was born so it was even more special. But i must say i can't take shane warne straight after Pete and Si just ripped him apart one summer weekend in cardiff, ahh i miss the comedy duo! So after getting a little tipsy at the cricket we all went to Rohan's uncle's 70th birthday bash. Well Miranda and I were definitly there to liven it up a bit and we seemed to be a hit, especially with some of the older peeps, who wanted to know all about our trip and our respective countries. Aussie ppl are wicked. So apart from that i haven't been up to much, but now New Years is looming and everyone has gone off to festivals, but unfortunatley i can't afford it so i'll be in Melbourne all on my tod, i just have to make sure i make some friends before sunday!!! Thank you all for your christmas and NY messages by the way, i hope you all had a good time and that for all the portishead ppl had a good old knees up at the windymill, Man i really missed it! I'll try and keep u all updated with what i'm up to more often, but the internet is a bit of a luxary at the moment! Anyways have a fabulous New years Dharlings, and i miss you all very very much!!!!. So i thought i should go to church and sing a few carols, so i looked up the service times and marched down the road trying to look like i hadn't just got out of bed
